Smell the Coffee

One thing about being retired is that I don’t need an alarm to get me out of bed. I can lay in bed, read the news, check my emails, pay any bills that need paying or browse Facebook. I often lay in bed thinking to myself that I could do with a coffee, but do I sneak out of bed and go downstairs, make a cup? These decisions don’t come easily, even for an active retiree! Once Melanie rouses, and after some discussion and the decision is made to start the day properly and to crawl out of bed, we advise our friend Alexa that we’re getting up. Alexa then carries out a few household functions including raising the bedroom blinds. However, she hasn’t yet picked up the skills necessary to make me an early morning espresso.

“Switch on Nespresso machine” I tell myself and “insert coffee capsule”. Dispense button pressed, and seconds later my espresso is ready. Having downed a small cup of espresso my brain gradually lurches into action and notes that espresso supplies may need to be refreshed soon. Open laptop and find my way to our excellent and reasonably priced supplier of Nespresso pods and hot chocolate pods, Kaffekapslen.

Slowly the day starts – what has Melanie organised for me today?
