A Friday 13th Adventure: Lunch at Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen

Last Friday 13th, Melanie and I had planned a delightful lunch with an old friend at Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen. Unfortunately, our friend had to cancel last minute, but we quickly adapted, switching our reservation to a cosy table for two. With some unexpected free time, I suggested we hop on a train and visit the Tate Modern at Blackfriars.

Our plan? A relaxing coffee and snack at the Members Bar, a quick browse through the gift shop for some last-minute Christmas gifts, and then a leisurely walk across the Millennium Bridge (fondly known as the Wobbly Bridge) to Bread Street Kitchen for a pre-Christmas lunch.

The Tate Modern Experience

The coffee and pear tart at the Members Bar were excellent – a perfect start to the day! But the gift shop, which we hoped would be stocked with festive finds, was a bit of a letdown. Instead of a curated selection of Christmas treasures, we found their usual stock. Nice, but not quite what we had in mind for a holiday shopping spree.

Lunch at Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen

With the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral guiding us, we strolled across the bridge to Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen. I had been looking forward to a festive menu, but sadly, it was just the standard offerings – burgers, sausages, curries, and steaks. The food was good but nothing extraordinary. My starter was meatballs in tomato sauce, followed by a spiral venison sausage. Both were tasty, but a bit heavy.

The price? Predictably on the high side. While not shocking, I couldn’t help but think we could find better meals for a similar price elsewhere.

Wrapping Up the Day

Despite some mild disappointments, Melanie and I thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company, and that’s what truly matters. As we headed home, we reflected on the day – Friday the 13th might be unlucky for some, but for us, it was a lovely day with just a hint of unmet expectations.
