Our Love for Art and Craft

As proud members of the Royal Academy of Arts and the Tate Gallery, we frequently attend exhibitions and events, continually seeking inspiration. We also enjoy visiting local fairs like the Wimbledon Art Fair and the Affordable Art Fair, where we discover new artists and ideas.

Melanie’s passion lies in handmade jewellery. She often spends time at our dining table, crafting unique necklaces and earrings from her curated collection of beads and trinkets. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind creation, reflecting her love for creativity and intricate design.

Andy, on the other hand, is an avid photographer. His love for photography began in childhood and continues to grow. Inspired by our travels, Andy captures the world’s beauty through his lens, from stunning landscapes to candid moments that tell a story.

Our Diverse Skills and Smart Home Integration

You might wonder what other skills we’ve picked up along the way. Through our careers, raising five children, and maintaining and decorating our homes, we’ve gained a wide range of practical skills. From DIY home projects to creative problem-solving, we’ve learned how to tackle life’s challenges effectively.

One of our recent endeavours has been transforming our home into a smart home, blending practicality with cutting-edge technology.

We’ve integrated a Synology DiskStation home server, which securely manages and stores our growing collection of digital files, including music, videos, and photographs. It serves as one of the backbones of our home network, ensuring everything runs seamlessly.

Our Hive-controlled central heating system lets us remotely manage our home’s temperature, enhancing energy efficiency. We’ve also installed Philips Hue smart bulbs, giving us full control over the lighting in each room—from creating the perfect dinner party atmosphere to adjusting the lighting to suit our daily routine.

Many of these features can be controlled, whether we’re home or away, through our virtual assistant, Alexa, who, via Amazon Music, also provides us with a never-ending supply of music.

These tech-driven solutions have enhanced our home, allowing us to focus on what we love most—creating, crafting, and sharing our experiences. As we continue this journey, we’ll also share tips on how you can integrate these technologies into your own home.
