A Dustcart Dilemma: Unexpected Early Collection

In our neighbourhood, the bins are usually collected by the dustmen every Wednesday morning after 9:30 a.m. So, imagine my surprise when I was abruptly woken at 6:45 a.m. by the unmistakable sound of the dustcart outside. I quickly jumped out of bed, threw on my dressing gown, and rushed downstairs. After turning off the alarm, I unlocked the front door and braved the sub-zero temperatures, only to see the dustcart disappearing down the road.

Grabbing our paper and card recycling bin, I sprinted down the icy street to catch up. But when I finally reached the dustmen, I was informed they were only collecting general waste. So, I ran back home, swapped bins, and hurried back again, managing to hand the correct bin to a rather ungracious dustman. After it was emptied, I made my way back home, cold and exhausted.

At least a warm espresso and feeding Truffle, our cat, awaited me before I could finally crawl back into bed next to a still-sleeping Melanie.
